Natural Management for Flu, Nasal Allergy & Post-Nasal Drip
Seasonal shifts, especially between October and January, often trigger respiratory sensitivities. In traditional Unani practices, this condition is often linked to an Asabi (phlegmatic) imbalance. Whether it is due to pollen or dust, persistent sneezing and post-nasal drip (Keera) can be effectively managed with the right lifestyle and traditional remedies.
The Impact of Post-Nasal Drip
Post-nasal drip occurs when excess mucus flows down the back of the throat. If ignored, this constant irritation may lead to secondary throat discomfort and a persistent cough. Addressing the internal sensitivity is key to long-term relief.
Key Precautions
- Avoid Dust: Use a mask or cover your nose during house cleaning.
- Temperature Control: Avoid ice-cold beverages, refrigerated milk, and synthetic ketchups during recovery.
- Room Temperature: Always allow refrigerated items to reach room temperature before consumption.
Traditional Herbal Protocol
This time-tested Unani remedy is widely used for its effectiveness in soothing the nasal passage and reducing excess secretions.
The Recipe (For Adults)
Use one of the following based on availability:
- Option A: 11 pieces of Munakka (Seeded large raisins)
- Option B: 20 regular Raisins (Kishmish)
- Option C: 3 Cloves (Laung)
Instructions: Boil your chosen ingredient in one glass of water until 75% of the water has evaporated. Drink the remaining 25% very slowly, sip by sip, to allow the herbal essence to coat the throat.
Note for High Blood Pressure Patients
This remedy is naturally warming. If you have hypertension, consult a specialist before use. If advised to proceed, use half the dosage and consume only after it has cooled down completely.
Post-Remedy Care
For best results, avoid direct Air Conditioning (AC) or high-speed fans for 30 minutes after drinking. If a second dose is necessary, ensure a gap of at least 4 hours.
